Allegro Energy is an Australian CleanTech company building a new type of flow battery for long-duration energy storage (LDES).
LDES is the missing piece of the clean energy transition. As coal plants close and renewables take over, the grid needs batteries that can store power not just for an hour or two, but across days and weeks of low sun or low wind. AEMO's 2025 Electricity Statement of Opportunities identifies this directly — reliability gaps are already emerging from major coal retirements, and the grid will increasingly depend on storage that can cover extended periods of low renewable output.
Allegro's Microemulsion Flow Battery is designed for exactly this role: safe, sustainable, and built to store energy for eight hours or more. Unlike lithium-ion batteries, it uses no flammable materials and is made from widely available materials.
Our mission is to connect all human endeavours to an inexhaustible, readily available supply of inexpensive clean power — providing the missing link between the promise of renewable energy and its ultimate application. Allegro is the world's first truly sustainable battery storage technology with wide application across the energy markets.
Our vision is a future powered by plentiful, cheap, clean energy. A sustainable planet and a zero-carbon economy — a world where abundant energy and positive climate impact are synonymous.
Why work with us
Safe by design. No flammable materials, no thermal runaway risk. The electrolyte is water-based — it cannot catch fire.
Genuinely long duration. 8–20+ hours of storage, compared to the 2–4 hours typical of lithium-ion.
No critical minerals. No lithium, cobalt, or vanadium. The electrolyte is made from widely available, commercially sourced materials — no exposure to geopolitical supply chain risk or price volatility in critical minerals markets.
Sustainable end-of-life. All battery components are recycleable. No hazardous waste disposal problem at end of system life.
Australian-made. Manufactured in NSW. No sovereign risk, no long lead times from offshore suppliers, straightforward service and support.
Scalable modular design. Systems can be configured from small commercial installations up to grid-scale deployments, with the same core technology and supply chain throughout.
